Perth Glory’s exciting young talent, Sebastian Despotovski, is set to potentially make his Isuzu UTE A-League debut this weekend after being included in the travelling party for their Round 28 matchup against Auckland FC.
As Glory concludes their season with fixtures in New Zealand against the Black Knights and Wellington Phoenix, manager David Zdrilic has acknowledged the impressive performances of 19-year-old Despotovski in the NPL by selecting him for the first team.
Son of Glory icon Bobby Despotovski, the young forward netted four goals in just 53 minutes during a recent match against Perth RedStar, showcasing a striking prowess that certainly caught the attention of the head coach.

“Sebastian has been performing exceptionally well in the NPL (Western Australia), and he’s coming with us,” Zdrilic remarked at his pre-match press conference before the team’s trip across the Tasman.
“It’s no secret that I’m keen to incorporate young talents, and I’ve been doing so throughout the year, which will continue with the current squad.”

“I’m observing all the players in the NPL.”
“Last year, we were nearly relegated, but this season we’ve made significant progress. The program has certainly improved this year.”
“The players should be aware that we’re keeping an eye on them, and if they perform well, they’ll receive opportunities with us.”
Zdrilic later noted: “He trained with us last year alongside a group of players from the NPL. The evolution from where they were to where they currently stand is significant… patience is essential.”
“Last year, there’s no way some of these players could have kept up in training. Now, he’s integrated seamlessly, not just scoring goals but also training like one of our regular players, not getting lost in the sessions.”
“That impresses me the most. Yes, he’s scoring in the NPL, but he excels when he trains with us too.”
“It’s crucial for all the young players at this club to understand that we are attentive to their progress, and they will be given a chance at the right moment.”
“His inclusion in the squad is a positive step, and we’ll see how things unfold, but he’s earned his place with his strong NPL performances.”
Currently sitting at the bottom of the Isuzu UTE A-League, Perth Glory faces the challenging task of claiming points against league leaders Auckland FC this Sunday.

One advantageous factor for Glory could be that the Black Knights might already have secured the Premier’s title by the time the match begins.
TROPHY HUNTERS: The grand vision driving Auckland’s historic season: ‘Something unprecedented’
If second-placed Melbourne City doesn’t win against Adelaide United at home on Saturday evening, Auckland will secure the Premier’s Plate without kicking a ball in their match, potentially facing a team already in celebratory spirit at the packed Go Media Stadium.
With just 14 points accumulated, Glory trails 12th-placed Brisbane Roar by a solitary point, with only two matches remaining in their respective campaigns.
