It was an eventful weekend at both ends of European football’s leagues, revealing the most significant winners and losers.
Following Arsenal’s nail-biting loss to Bournemouth at home as the weekend kicked off, Manchester City recognised a chance to capitalise. For the first time, the title race seemed to swing in their favour. Pep Guardiola’s squad faced a challenging fixture, yet their commanding 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge felt more than routine.
This result sent a clear message: the title race remains wide open, and City are firmly in contention. Historically, this is the moment when Manchester City typically comes alive; if they catch even a hint of an opportunity, they will pursue it with the ferocity of a predator on the hunt.
Arsenal, having experienced that tough loss, now prepares for a critical clash against City next weekend. Should Guardiola’s side secure victory and also win their game in hand, they would draw level on points with the Gunners, positioning themselves as favourites to clinch the title.
It seems only recently that Bodo/Glimt stunned City with a 3-1 win, kicking off an incredible Champions League journey that led them to eliminate Inter and reach the Round of 16. However, that fairytale has come to a screeching halt.
A month after their European campaign ended in a heavy 5-0 defeat to Sporting, they suffered the same fate at the hands of title contenders Viking in their fourth league match of the season. After a once-illustrious run, they’ve found themselves quickly brought back down to reality.

Bayern Munich’s exceptional season reached new milestones this weekend as they shattered the record for the most goals scored in a single Bundesliga season, achieving this feat in April! They displayed their attacking prowess by hammering St. Pauli 5-0 on their turf, bringing their league tally to an astounding 105 goals.

In doing so, they surpassed their own previous record from the 1971/72 season, in which they amassed 101 goals, and they still have five matches remaining!
Vincent Kompany is accomplishing an extraordinary feat, and breaking the Bundesliga goal record is just the beginning of what could be a landmark season for this illustrious club.
Tottenham, on the other hand, seems to be stuck in a rut this season. Every effort the club has made in a bid to stave off relegation has spectacularly backfired, and their latest attempt has started in disastrous fashion. The appointment of Roberto De Zerbi during the international break, following the sacking of interim coach Igor Tudor, was Spurs’ final gamble in what has been a dismal season.
A challenging trip to Sunderland was never going to be an ideal start for De Zerbi, but the way they lost raised significant alarm bells, sending Spurs into the relegation zone. Their performance was lacklustre, especially in the final third, which raises serious concerns.
De Zerbi faces an uphill task to salvage the sinking ship that is Tottenham Hotspur; based on his debut match, it appears to be a battle he is unlikely to win.
Ngumoha is quickly emerging as the breakout star of this Premier League season. The young English talent has mostly come on as a substitute, but he has consistently made an impact when given the chance. Thus, it was no shock when he was handed a rare start and seized the opportunity.
Ngumoha was a persistent threat during his impressive 69 minutes against Fulham, ending the match with a memorable goal that made him the youngest Liverpool player to score at Anfield. This crucial goal set Liverpool on track for an essential three points in their pursuit of a top-five finish.
The finish was exquisite; he allowed the ball to move across his body, feigned a strike, and elegantly lifted it over the goalkeeper with a delicate dink. Ironically, the only issue for Real Sociedad defender Caleta-Car was that the goal was at the opposite end of the pitch.
Caleta-Car’s own goal proved critical in his side’s Basque derby against Alaves, which ended in a 3-3 stalemate, costing La Real vital points that would have propelled them into the European spots.
