Kaizer Chiefs will need to enhance their attacking prowess this coming Sunday in the Soweto Derby if they hope to secure a victory against their long-standing rivals Orlando Pirates at Soccer City, suggests midfielder Lebohang Maboe.
On Saturday, the Chiefs could only manage a goalless draw against Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership, a result that marked the end of their five-match winning streak.
With AmaZulu succumbing to a 3-0 defeat against Pirates, Chiefs are edging closer to qualifying for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, now sitting seven points ahead in third place with a game still in hand.

Despite attempting 14 shots against Polokwane City, only four were on target, a stark contrast to their previous four league matches where they found the net 11 times.
“This isn’t the outcome we desired, but we anticipated a tough game playing away,” Maboe remarked. “We’ll just have to settle for a point. We were aware they’d play their game with long balls.
“I believe we were well-prepared, but we simply didn’t create enough chances. However, we mustn’t be ungrateful; we need to appreciate the point.”
“We needed to score in this match, but it didn’t happen. Massive respect to my teammates for working so hard. We must keep pushing ourselves for more.”
“Next week, there’s another significant match (against Pirates) that we are eager for, but for now, we have to return home, regroup, and identify what went wrong so we can correct those errors.”
Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze shared similar sentiments.
“I thought we performed better in the first half, but we lacked composure. Rather than taking an extra touch, we were often just striking with one touch. It seemed the game was played at a pace faster than it should have been,” Kaze stated.
“We anticipated Polokwane City would defend and seek to catch us on the counter with long balls. However, as the second half wore on, we lost some control and allowed them to build confidence and create attacking opportunities.
“In previous matches, our impact players (substitutes) made a significant difference, but today they fell short. That’s an area we’ll need to review. Nevertheless, it was a respectable point gained away from home, and now we must focus on the forthcoming match.”
