Juventus has climbed into the Serie A top four after narrowly defeating Atalanta B.C 1-0 at the New Balance Arena, a victory that extends The Old Lady’s unbeaten streak in the league to six matches.
The hosts came agonisingly close to seizing the lead twice within the first 10 minutes. Poland international Nicola Zalewski sent a shot just wide when it seemed easier to score, and moments later, Giorgio Scalvini’s powerful header rattled the post.
Despite the energetic start, the game settled into a quieter phase until the action picked up again just before half-time.
Atalanta’s Nikola Krstovic missed a golden chance to open the scoring as he attempted an acrobatic shot from close range.
However, La Dea’s supporters, who were electrifying throughout the match, recognised that their team needed greater precision in the final third, as they only managed one shot on target out of ten attempts by half-time. Conversely, Juventus appeared unusually subdued in attack, rarely posing a threat to Atalanta’s backline.
Raffaele Palladino’s side quickly found themselves punished for their earlier missed opportunities as the second half commenced. Just three minutes after the break, the Bianconeri took the lead when Jeremie Boga’s mis-hit shot fortuitously looped into the net after Atalanta failed to clear a ball into the box.
La Dea fought hard to get back on even terms and nearly did so just before the hour mark when Michele Di Gregorio pulled off a brilliant save to deny Berat Djimsiti.
Ultimately, it was a frustrating evening for Atalanta, as their inability to convert opportunities proved costly.
Though not at their best, the Bianconeri managed to hold on for three crucial points. They will look to maintain their good form next weekend when they host Bologna, with their aspirations for next season’s UEFA Champions League still firmly at stake.
On the other hand, Atalanta remains in seventh place and will be eager to bounce back when they visit Roma on Matchday 33.
