Diego Simeone, the coach of Atletico Madrid, has called on his squad to maintain their momentum for the remainder of the season following a dominant 3-0 victory against city rivals Rayo Vallecano on Thursday, which fortified their position in third place in LaLiga.
Goals from Alexander Sorloth, Conor Gallagher, and Julian Alvarez secured a convincing triumph that allowed Atletico to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 loss to Las Palmas the previous Saturday.
“I’m not frustrated that we’re now finding the net regularly; it’s simply part of our development. In football, circumstances can shift quickly, and we have to be ready for whatever challenges come our way,” the Argentine tactician remarked to the press.
“We’ve been competing well in the league, and I hope we can keep this form going from game to game until the end,” he added.

Currently sitting in third place, Atletico finds themselves 10 points adrift of league leaders Barcelona and six points behind second-place Real Madrid. While Simeone acknowledged that the championship is likely beyond reach, he emphasised the necessity of a robust defensive unit as they progress towards the season’s climax.
“In our match against Las Palmas, we performed poorly, and during the first half today, we encountered similar issues. However, we managed to recover, and I’m pleased with our defensive efforts, which underpin everything we aim to achieve as a team,” he elaborated.
The coach also extended his compliments to substitute Antoine Griezmann, who made a notable impact after coming on, providing a key assist for Alvarez’s goal.
“Antoine came on in the 60th minute and found a way to dismantle the defence, delivering an important pass,” he remarked. “Julian’s goals reflect the quality of player he is, and we’re getting to know him as a person; he’s here to win, and I hope we can support him in that pursuit.”
