Inter Milan has edged closer to claiming the Serie A title, defeating Cagliari 3-0 at the San Siro, and stretching their lead to an impressive 12 points at the top of the table.
The home side faced a perplexing situation as they failed to find the net within the first 20 minutes.
An Inter counter-attack showcased a strong partnership between Marcus Thuram and Francesco Pio Esposito, culminating in a ball cut across the goal that Federico Dimarco met, yet his close-range attempt was valiantly blocked just in front of the line by Michel Adopo.
The first half was frustrating for Cristian Chivu’s men as they found it tough to break through Cagliari’s sturdy defence. Just before half-time, a stunning first touch from Esposito positioned him perfectly to give Inter the lead, but he was denied by a remarkable save from Isolani goalkeeper Elia Caprile.
Following an inspired pep talk from Chivu, Inter dominated their opponents in the second half, cruising to victory.
The breakthrough came in the 52nd minute, with Thuram confidently finding the net after an excellent pass from Dimarco.
The ecstatic home crowd erupted once more just four minutes later, as Nicolo Barella smashed the ball past Caprile to extend Inter’s lead in style.
Cagliari now appeared deflated, and with the contest effectively decided, Piotr Zielinski capped off the scoring with an outstanding finish in the closing moments of the match.
This victory marks Inter’s third consecutive win, placing them on the verge of Scudetto triumph. Their attention now shifts to the Coppa Italia, with a crucial semi-final second leg against Como coming up on Tuesday.
On the other hand, Cagliari remain in 16th place in Serie A, six points clear of the relegation zone as the end of the season approaches.
