Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli is expected to evade any further action from the FA following an incident in which he shoved referee Sam Barrott during their FA Cup quarter-final loss to Southampton on Saturday.
Referee Barrott opted to issue Martinelli a yellow card after the Arsenal forward made contact with him while attempting to execute a quick free-kick.
Notably, there will be no additional sanctions imposed on Martinelli beyond this booking.
According to the Athletic, since Barrott took appropriate measures during the incident, the FA will refrain from conducting an investigation or enforcing any further penalties.
Former referee Mark Halsey commented on the situation at the time, stating: “I believe Gabriel Martinelli displayed a complete lack of respect for match official Sam Barrott in that instance.
“While Sam issued a yellow card, in my view, it should have been a red card. You simply cannot put your hands on a referee, let alone push him aside.”
“We must consider the referees across the country, working on Saturdays and Sundays in local parks. What message does this send to our community referees?
