Hearts’ quest for their first Scottish title in over 60 years could hinge on a dramatic showdown with reigning champions Celtic on the final day of the season, following the announcement of post-split fixtures in the Scottish Premiership on Tuesday.
Rangers, Celtic’s fierce rivals from Glasgow, are also in contention for the title and will face Falkirk in their concluding match, scheduled for May 16th.
With six matches remaining, Hearts currently sit at the top of the table, holding a slender one-point lead over Rangers, while Celtic, who have claimed 13 of the last 14 championships, trail by two points.
In the final round of fixtures before the split next weekend, Hearts will host St Mirren at home, while Rangers will head to Falkirk.
The split, which aims to ensure more competitive matches towards the conclusion of a league season with only 12 teams, will occur after 33 games have been played.
The top six teams will compete against each other once more, as will the bottom six.
The last ‘Old Firm’ derby of the season will see Rangers visit Celtic Park on Sunday, May 10th, occurring after Hearts take on Rangers at Tynecastle the previous Monday.
Additionally, the final Edinburgh derby for the season will see Hearts making their way across the capital to take on Hibernian at Easter Road on April 26th, the first fixture following the split.
