Nottingham Forest staged a comeback, drawing 1-1 with Aston Villa, which means the Villains remain winless in their last four encounters at the City Ground since the Tricky Trees’ return to the Premier League.
The visitors faced an early setback when Emiliano Martinez withdrew from the match, but Marco Bizot stepped up to make the first save, deflecting Neco Williams’ shot out of play.
With both teams aware of the importance of the match at opposite ends of the league table, the tension was palpable, and the deadlock was broken by an own goal in the 23rd minute.
Morgan Rogers fired the ball into the six-yard area, where Murillo miscontrolled it, inadvertently directing it into his own goal.
Buoyed by his involvement in the goal, Rogers later provided an assist that saw Matz Sels rush out to thwart Ollie Watkins, who then had a shot that struck the crossbar.
Forest equalised in the 38th minute when Callum Hudson-Odoi set up Williams, who struck a powerful shot past Bizot.
Williams attempted another strike from outside the penalty area, but it was saved by Villa’s goalkeeper, and a header just before halftime went wide of Bizot’s post.
Igor Jesus wasted two chances shortly after the restart, and at the other end, Youri Tielemans shot wide, as both teams looked to assert themselves.
In a flurry of action just after the hour mark, each goalkeeper had to make a commendable save; Bizot successfully diverted a Morgan Gibbs-White effort that had taken a deflection off Matty Cash, while Sels denied Watkins’ attempt.
Sels again needed to be alert when Ross Barkley’s shot was parried into a dangerous area, and he breathed a sigh of relief when Rogers failed to convert from the rebound. After a Forest corner was headed away, Williams seized the opportunity to unleash a powerful shot, only to be denied by Tielemans’ block.

Aston Villa created a few late chances to secure all three points, but Watkins missed the target, and Cash’s ambitious attempt was comfortably saved.
As a result of the draw, Forest’s unbeaten streak across all competitions grows to five matches, though they find themselves perilously close to the relegation zone, sitting just three points clear of Tottenham Hotspur.
On the other hand, Aston Villa’s three-match winning streak in competitive play came to an end, denying them the chance to leapfrog Manchester United in the standings.
