Brazilian forward Endrick has expressed confidence to AFP that his Lyon team can cause an upset against French and European champions Paris Saint-Germain in their upcoming Ligue 1 clash this Sunday.
This match at PSG’s home ground, Parc des Princes, will have major implications for both the title race and Lyon’s ambitions for a Champions League spot next season.
“I understand that everyone will label them as the favourites, but we have already defeated other teams considered to be ahead of us,” Endrick shared in comments relayed to AFP by his press team on Friday evening.
Currently, PSG is enjoying a strong run, sitting just one point clear at the top of Ligue 1 and having secured a spot in the Champions League semi-finals with a 4-0 aggregate victory over Premier League champions Liverpool.
Lens’ recent win has narrowed the gap to PSG, but the Parisians still hold two games in hand against their unexpected title rivals before facing Lyon.
As the season approaches its climax, the team from the French capital is determined to repeat their historic 2024/25 season, during which they won both Ligue 1 and the Champions League for the first time ever.
“It’s going to be a challenging game. They still hold the biggest title in Europe, and they have the Ballon d’Or winner (Ousmane Dembele) among their ranks, along with several players who will be competing in the World Cup,” Endrick added.

‘Back to winning form’
Lyon currently occupies the fifth position in the French league with 51 points, trailing just one point behind fourth-placed Marseille, who currently hold the last Champions League qualification spot.
At just 19 years of age, Endrick is striving to regain the impressive form he displayed upon joining Lyon in January from parent club Real Madrid, as he seeks more playing time to secure a spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup.
The teenager, who came through the ranks at Palmeiras in his native Brazil, made a sensational start in France, notably scoring a hat-trick in a 5-2 victory against Metz.
However, his scoring has dipped since then.
After netting five goals in his first five matches, Endrick has managed only one goal in his last eleven appearances across all competitions.
This slump in form for the Brazilian has coincided with a tough spell for Lyon, although they did manage to return to winning ways last Sunday with a victory over Lorient, a match in which Endrick was an unused substitute.
“We’ve got our winning mentality back, and our goal now is to secure a spot in the Champions League,” Endrick stated.
