This Saturday, Molineux Stadium will host an essential clash as Wolverhampton Wanderers face off against Tottenham Hotspur, with the away side needing a win more than ever.
With their relegation to the Championship already confirmed, Wolves can take to the pitch with a liberating sense of freedom and no pressing burden on their shoulders.
Spurs on the brink of a record winless streak
For Tottenham, however, securing a victory is crucial not only for their own ambitions but also requires West Ham to drop points against Everton at the London Stadium to escape the relegation zone.
Roberto De Zerbi’s squad has yet to claim a Premier League win in 2026, and failure to secure three points this weekend would mean matching an unwanted record of 16 games without a victory, a streak last seen nearly a century ago from 1934 to 1935.

Historically, Spurs have struggled in recent trips to Wolves, losing their last three encounters at Molineux, matching the total losses from their previous 16 visits combined—an ideal time to end this streak.
Rob Edwards’ side are undefeated in their past six meetings with Tottenham (W4, D2) dating back to August 2022, which is an impressive record given they only secured four victories in the first 17 Premier League clashes between the two teams (W4, D3, L9).
Previous encounter ends level
The last face-off between these sides in September ended in dramatic fashion, with Joao Palhinha equalising in stoppage time after Santiago Bueno had first put Wolves ahead in the 54th minute.
Edwards experienced two defeats against Spurs during his tenure with Luton Town in the 2023/24 season, though his biggest victory came in a 4-0 triumph over Brighton—managed by De Zerbi.

The only silver lining for Spurs is that their opponents have already recorded 22 losses this season.
This total is just shy of the records for 23 losses in the 1905/06 and 2011/12 seasons, and three matches less than the 25 defeats seen in 1964/65 and 1983/84.
Looking at the current state of both clubs, they sit at the bottom of the Premier League table for points accrued over the last two seasons (Wolves 59, Spurs 69), among teams that have been constantly present in the top flight during this period.
Wolves’ struggle at home
Additionally, Wolves’ poor form reflects in their record of 42 defeats, the highest in the league, while Tottenham’s 38 losses rank as the second-worst.
This season, Wolves has failed to find the net in 17 matches and come into this fixture on the back of two heavy defeats: 4-0 to West Ham and 3-0 to Leeds. They have not suffered three consecutive losses by three goals or more since 2014.
In 16 home matches in the current Premier League season, Wolves have achieved only three wins, with three draws and ten losses; however, they are currently unbeaten at Molineux since February 18.
On the other hand, Tottenham is currently on a seven-match winless streak away from home, having last enjoyed victory on the road against Crystal Palace in December.
Richarlison at the forefront
The opening goal in this game will prove crucial, as Tottenham started the season powerfully, winning seven of eight matches when first to score.
Yet, in their last five matches where they have opened the scoring, they have only managed two draws and three losses, conceding 11 goals along the way.
Richarlison has emerged as Spurs’ main goal threat, netting nine times this season. In contrast, Wolves’ scoring has been more diverse, with Tolu Arokodare and Rodrigo Gomes as joint top-scorers with three each, followed closely by Mateus Mane’s two goals.
The challenge for De Zerbi is to find a way to implement a strategy that yields the results needed to stave off relegation, balancing attacking flair with effective defensive measures.
With away fixtures looming against Aston Villa and Chelsea, along with home matches against Leeds and Everton, Spurs must focus on their immediate task.
De Zerbi’s straightforward directive
The message is clear: outpoint West Ham. There’s no need for De Zerbi to overcomplicate matters with precious time running out this season.
With captain Cristian Romero sidelined, he is joined in the treatment room by Mo Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, Ben Davies, Guglielmo Vicario, and Wilson Odobert.
