Ezra Mam delivered a sensational moment that many have dubbed “freaky” as a depleted Broncos outfit triumphed 32-12 over the Bulldogs.
Early in the second half, with Brisbane holding a 20-0 lead, Mam took on the defence down the short side on the second tackle, executing a cut-out pass to Josiah Karapani, who managed to pierce the defensive line.
The Broncos’ winger then attempted an inside ball but it was deflected by Lachlan Galvin. Under pressure from Gehamat Shibasaki, Galvin was unable to secure the steeden cleanly.
Mam seized the opportunity, scooping up the loose ball, and danced towards the sideline with Connor Tracey closing in, ultimately managing to place it down successfully.
“I don’t know,” was Cameron Smith’s immediate reaction during Nine’s broadcast.

Meanwhile, Billy Slater was extremely impressed with the display.
“He has the ability to pull off some incredible moves… he went short side and it wasn’t even an overlap—there were three on three,” he remarked.
“That’s a try; there’s no way you can overturn that.”
Replays from various angles kept emerging, showing Mam’s foot barely grazing the sideline.
“The longer we deliberate, the more I think it’s going to be awarded,” Slater said. “They’ll need to find enough evidence to overturn the decision.”

Contrarily, Smith held a more cautious view.
“With every replay, the anxiety grows for Broncos fans,” he noted.
Yet, Smith was proven wrong as the Bunker awarded the try, bringing a beaming smile to Mam’s face.

In the post-match interview, the five-eighth attributed the try to a unique skill set.
“I just think I tapped into my Ninja Turtle skills,” he told Sam Thaiday. “I backed myself into the corner, had the ball in my right hand and thought, ‘I’m not sure what to do next.’”
Mam concluded the game with three line break assists and three try assists, showcasing an electrifying performance.
“There’s no denying he’s brimming with confidence. Absolutely no doubt about that. The way he played tonight spoke volumes,” Smith remarked.
