Luis Enrique has cautioned Paris Saint-Germain against falling into a “trap” when they face Liverpool, as the Champions League holders aspire to reach the semi-finals on Tuesday.
PSG travels to Anfield with a 2-0 advantage from last week’s quarter-final first leg held in Paris.
Liverpool struggled to muster a single shot on target, while Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia found the net for Luis Enrique’s squad.
Despite PSG’s commanding performance at the Parc des Princes last week and their penalty shootout triumph against Liverpool in the last-16 of the previous season, Luis Enrique is not underestimating the challenge at Merseyside.
Liverpool is notorious for pulling off remarkable comebacks in European competitions and are eager to turn around a challenging season by pushing through to the last four in the continent’s premier club tournament.
“You have to be very cautious; there are pitfalls, and it could be a trap,” Luis Enrique informed the media on Monday.
“People tend to say, ‘you won the first leg comfortably and were superior to your opponents’. While that may be true, football matches can shift rapidly.
“You must remain vigilant, pay attention to the details, and be prepared for the possibility of conceding an early goal, which would keep the match wide open.”
With a two-goal cushion, PSG might be inclined to adopt a more defensive stance to secure the tie.
However, Luis Enrique has no plans to retreat, encouraging his players to pursue victory.
“Our approach will be to go out and win the match, as we always do. Liverpool will aim to score, but I need my team to understand that we will face challenges in this game; it won’t be straightforward,” he stated.
“I anticipate a closely contested match, despite everything that has taken place so far in the tie.”
PSG will face the daunting Anfield atmosphere, but Luis Enrique is confident they can cope with the pressure.
“We recognise the difficulty of playing at a venue like Anfield, but it also serves as motivation because we aim to play our game and conquer them to secure the win,” he added.
