Not so long ago, Blaize Talagi and Lachlan Galvin were donning the same jersey for Westfields Sports High School, emerging as two of the most promising talents in the sport.
Fast forward to now, and these two promising players are set to clash as competitors, with the Bulldogs eager for a vital victory when they host the Panthers in an electrifying round six showdown.
Talagi embarked on his NRL journey with the Eels before transferring to Penrith last season, while Galvin’s first-grade journey is more widely reported, having departed the Wests Tigers halfway through the 2025 season to join Canterbury.
Since arriving at Belmore last year, the 20-year-old Galvin has faced substantial scrutiny, whereas Talagi has mostly navigated the pressures with relative ease.

During a media session on Tuesday, the promising young Panthers five-eighth expressed his empathy for his former schoolmate.
“Absolutely, I have some sympathy for him,” Talagi acknowledged.
“It’s a tough situation; he’s young, and it’s never easy to go through that. Learning while you play, especially under immense pressure, is quite challenging.”
“Galvin’s a great bloke, and I believe he’ll come out stronger from this experience.”

When asked if they still keep in touch, Talagi admitted, “not really,” yet mentioned that it’s special to recognise how far they’ve both progressed in such a short time.
“We’ve always been two talented young footy players,” he noted.
“Seeing our journey has been pretty rewarding. There is always that mutual respect between us.”

After a challenging start to his time at the foot of the Mountains last season, Talagi has been in sensational form, showcasing his talent during Penrith’s late-season surge and the beginning of the 2026 season.
The accomplished Samoan international believes that his development both on and off the field is starting to show results.
“I’ve certainly made significant progress … I think a lot of it comes down to me growing up and maturing as a person,” Talagi stated.
The Bulldogs will take on the Panthers at Accor Stadium this Thursday.
