Mikel Arteta is confident that Arsenal are “more than capable” of delivering a decisive blow to Manchester City in the Premier League title race when the two sides clash on Sunday.
The Gunners currently enjoy a six-point advantage ahead of their trip to the Etihad Stadium, although they have played one additional match compared to City.
Arsenal’s inconsistent form following their League Cup final defeat to City last month has given Pep Guardiola’s side renewed hope of catching up to Arteta’s team.
City managed to overtake Arsenal to clinch the title in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.
“We need to be ourselves and give it our all on the pitch,” Arteta emphasised.
“We must have immense belief and conviction and go for it because we are more than capable of achieving it.”
Arsenal have secured just one victory in their past five matches across all competitions.
Nonetheless, Arteta aims to concentrate on the positives as they strive to end a 22-year title drought.
“We are exactly where we want to be, and there are many positive aspects; I don’t see anything that should hold us back,” the Spaniard remarked.
“We are up against an opponent who demands the very best from us. It doesn’t get much better than this.”
In contrast, City have found their rhythm with convincing victories over Liverpool and Chelsea since securing the first trophy of the season at Wembley.
However, Guardiola reiterated that his side must remain flawless in their pursuit of a seventh league title in ten years since his arrival in Manchester.
“We thrive under pressure,” Guardiola stated.
“To compete effectively against that team, they need to understand that if we don’t win, it’s game over. They are aware of this, and we’ve discussed it.”
