Real Betis’ Winless Run in LaLiga Goes On Despite Resilient Draw Against Osasuna

After a promising start to the season, Betis’ performance has slipped lately, threatening their previously solid position for UEFA Europa League qualification.

Facing an Osasuna side that had only lost two of their previous 11 LaLiga encounters, Betis made a bright start, finding the net within the first ten minutes.

They capitalised on a rapid counterattack, with Hector Bellerin delivering a pinpoint pass to Abde Ezzalzouli, who struck from outside the box to open the scoring.

Osasuna responded nearly immediately, with Jon Moncayola presented with a golden opportunity, but Valentin Gomez executed an exquisite block to preserve Betis’ lead. Ezzalzouli continued to menace the Osasuna defence, forcing Sergio Herrera into a spectacular save from a distance of about 25 yards.

Just before half-time, Osasuna earned a penalty when Gomez fouled Jorge Herrando after Alvaro Valles had parried Ante Budimir’s header.

With only Vedat Muriqi and Kylian Mbappe scoring more goals in LaLiga this season than Budimir’s total of 15 before the match, the Croatian striker converted the penalty to square the game.

After half-time, Osasuna were the more threatening side, with Victor Munoz creating two excellent opportunities to give them the lead. His first attempt, a curling shot, was tipped over the bar by Valles, and on the next, Budimir inadvertently blocked a close-range attempt.

Iker Munoz then came close, sending a low free-kick just past the post, while Ezzalzouli finally managed to test Herrera as the visitors began to push forward, albeit briefly.

Ultimately, neither side could clinch the decisive goal, leaving Betis at risk of slipping to sixth place if Celta Vigo were to win against Real Oviedo later on Sunday.

On the other hand, Osasuna remain unbeaten in their last ten home matches, keeping their hopes for European football alive as they sit five points shy of the top six with seven matches left in the season.
