Manly coach Anthony Seibold is of the opinion that Daly Cherry-Evans is truly uncertain about his participation in the NRL for the upcoming season.
The Sea Eagles’ captain revealed on Monday that he would not be playing for the club in 2026, but left the door open regarding retirement.
If he chooses to continue his career, the Roosters appear to be the frontrunners to secure his services if he remains in Sydney, while the Dolphins—his former junior club—could entice him if he heads north.
Cherry-Evans was denied an early release at the conclusion of the 2023 season. With his contract expiring at the end of 2025, he informed Seibold and the club last December of his intention to pursue an extension.
Despite having indicated his desire to leave the club on two occasions, Seibold refuted claims that Cherry-Evans is unwilling to be part of the team.

“I don’t believe it’s a case of him wanting to leave. My discussions with Chez will remain confidential, as that is how it should be,” he shared with The Sydney Morning Herald.
“I truly feel that Chez is honest about not knowing his next steps.
“Is he keen to continue playing? Next birthday he turns 37. Could he extend his career? I believe he possibly could, but ultimately that’s a decision only he can make.
“As a 36-year-old with 332 games under his belt for our club—plus his time playing Origin and for Australia—he alone has the right to choose.
“Naturally, everyone is curious about where he’ll be playing next, but I genuinely think Chez hasn’t yet made that decision.
“We’re only three rounds into a 27-round season. I think it’s important he has the space to make his decision when he feels ready. It’s a demanding sport.”
