Liverpool solidified their position among the Premier League’s top five, securing a 2-0 victory against Fulham at Anfield, which ended a frustrating three-match run without a win in their recent head-to-head encounters.
In the lead-up to this clash, much of the pre-match discussion revolved around the announcement that Andrew Robertson would be departing at the conclusion of the season, and he was among the first Reds to threaten in the early stages.
Robertson’s powerful shot from outside the box was bravely blocked by Harry Wilson, just before Mohamed Salah, also set to leave at season’s end, tested Bernd Leno with a fierce effort from a tight angle.
As Liverpool ramped up the pressure on Fulham’s goal, Cody Gakpo came tantalisingly close after 20 minutes, sending a shot that fizzed just past the post from the edge of the area.
Fulham began to find their rhythm as the half progressed, creating a few chances of their own. Giorgi Mamardashvili was called into action, making crucial saves from efforts by Alex Iwobi and Oscar Bobb, moments before Harry Wilson sent a curling shot onto the top of the net.
Those missed opportunities would haunt Fulham as, just before half-time, Rio Ngumoha displayed excellent footwork inside the box, curling a brilliant shot into the far corner.
To make matters worse for Fulham, Salah followed up with a quickfire second goal, also finding the net from a similar position, leaving Marco Silva’s side with a daunting challenge ahead in the second half.
In response, Silva made a double substitution at halftime, bringing on Sasa Lukic and Emile Smith Rowe. The former had the ball in the net within five minutes of the restart, but his joy was short-lived as he was flagged offside.
Fulham continued to press and went close from a set piece when Rodrigo Muniz, left unmarked, had his header denied by a brilliant save from Florian Wirtz.
The Londoners persisted with their aerial threats from corners, and Joachim Andersen came close but could only guide Wilson’s delivery marginally wide of the target.

Smith Rowe had a golden opportunity to reduce the deficit but turned wide from just six yards out, marking Fulham’s last significant chance as they succumbed to their ninth defeat on the road this league season.
On the other hand, Liverpool will head into their midweek UEFA Champions League clash against PSG in high spirits, seeking a repeat of this scoreline to maintain any aspirations of progressing.
