A moment of mixed emotions struck the Diamonds just moments after they secured victory in the Constellation Cup, as Sunday Aryang sustained a serious injury on Wednesday night.
Heading into the fourth match, the Diamonds were leading the series against New Zealand 2-1, but the Silver Ferns turned the tables to clinch a 62-57 win by full-time.
This outcome sent the game into extra time, where the scores were tied at 11-11 with only six seconds remaining. The Diamonds skillfully managed the clock by passing the ball until Sophie Garbin found the net with a critical goal.
In a frantic response, the Silver Ferns quickly initiated a long pass towards New Zealand star Grace Nweke, who was subsequently penalised for a contact infringement against Aryang.
As Australians celebrated their win, goal defence Aryang fell to the ground, her knee caught awkwardly.

However, the jubilation quickly shifted to worry as Aryang was seen in tears on the court.
Subsequent scans on Thursday revealed that Aryang had suffered a ruptured ACL in her right knee.
“This is incredibly hard news for Sunday, who is such a vital part of our Diamonds team,” said Australian coach Stacey Marinkovich.
“She is a highly valued player within our squad, and we will be with her every step of the way during her recovery. We have no doubt that with the support around her, Sunday will fight back and return even stronger.”
