The contentious disruptor rule has made headlines once more, as a try from Robert Toia was disallowed during the Roosters and Sharks showdown in Perth.
In the dying minutes of the second half, Sam Stonestreet dropped a kick following a challenge from Toia.
The Sharks appeared to have narrowed the deficit to 16-10 before the Bunker intervened, declaring it a no try.
The Bunker’s justification was that Toia had made contact with Stonestreet prior to the ball descending.
A chorus of boos echoed throughout Optus Stadium as Roosters coaches Trent Robinson and Michael Cheika looked on in disbelief.

Roosters captain James Tedesco voiced his objections to the ruling, noting the timing of the incident was extremely close.
“A mere fingertip touch, and it’s still questionable whether the ball was in a catchable position,” remarked Greg Alexander on Fox League.
This decision proved pivotal, with the Sharks adding to their score just two plays later, courtesy of Tom Hazelton.

Following the event, Alexander revisited the disruptor ruling, drawing parallels with the Gehamat Shibasaki incident from the previous night.
“We witnessed some bizarre decisions regarding the disruptor rule last night, and we’ve just seen another one,” he commented.

At half-time, Roosters premiership champion Cooper Cronk expressed his discontent with the Bunker’s decision.
“I completely disagree with this ruling. I understand there’s a lot of debate surrounding the disruptor call, especially when someone physically impacts the catcher and not focusing on the ball. But this is the NRL—home to the world’s best rugby league players. We shouldn’t reward mediocrity when someone merely grazes a fingertip on a catcher.
“Rob Toia barely touched Stonestreet, and we claim that’s a disruption to an elite player catching the ball. It’s part of the outside back’s responsibility to make catches. I don’t agree with this… that isn’t a disruptor.”
