The contentious disruptor rule has raised eyebrows once more following the disallowance of a try by Robert Toia during the match between the Roosters and Sharks in Perth.
In the latter stages of the second half, Sam Stonestreet mishandled a kick after a challenge from Toia.
It appeared the Sharks had increased their lead to 16-10, only for the Bunker to intervene and overturn the decision, calling it no try.
The Bunker’s verdict was based on the assessment that Toia had made contact with Stonestreet prior to the ball being caught.
Disapproval erupted from the crowd at Optus Stadium as Roosters coaches Trent Robinson and Michael Cheika looked on, clearly taken aback.

Roosters’ captain James Tedesco challenged the ruling, pointing out how closely the timing was scrutinised.
“A fingertip touch, and still an argument as to whether the ball was in a catching position,” remarked Greg Alexander on Fox League.
This decision proved pivotal, leading to a try for the Sharks through Tom Hazelton just two sets later.

After the incident, Alexander revisited the disruptor ruling, referencing a similar call involving Gehamat Shibasaki from the previous night.
“We’ve witnessed some outrageous disruptor calls recently, and here’s yet another,” he noted.

During half-time, former Roosters star Cooper Cronk expressed his disdain for the Bunker’s decision-making.
“I found this call quite poor. I recognise the endless debate surrounding disruptor calls, especially when physical interference occurs, but we are talking about the NRL—home to the world’s best rugby league players. We should not be penalising for minimal interference like a mere fingertip touch on the catcher,” he asserted.
“Rob Toia hardly made contact with Stonestreet, and we’re suggesting that disrupts an elite player making a catch. It’s an essential part of an outside back’s role to catch the ball. I don’t agree with that ruling … that’s not a disruptor call.”
