The Melbourne Vixens have honoured their legendary coach Simone McKinnis in spectacular fashion, clinching a nail-biting one-point victory against the West Coast Fever in the Super Netball grand final on Saturday night.
McKinnis revealed her decision to step down after the season back in May, when the Vixens found themselves with just two wins from their initial six matches.
Now, she can proudly say she is the premiership coach for 2025 after guiding her team to a thrilling 59-58 win at Rod Laver Arena.
“It’s pretty rare to have fairytales like this. It’s unbelievable,” Vixens star Jo Weston shared in a post-match interview with Fox Netball.

The match was closely contested, with the Vixens holding a one-goal advantage at the conclusion of the first quarter.
By half-time, that lead had stretched to two goals, with the Vixens ahead 48-43 at the final interval.
Despite a strong challenge from the Fever, the Vixens managed to secure the win, a result that Fever captain Jess Anstiss described as “sheer devastation.”
West Coast entered the grand final as the frontrunners following a record-breaking semi-final victory over the Sydney Swifts.
