Malmo maintained their unbeaten away record in the Allsvenskan this season with a narrow 1-0 triumph over AIK at Strawberry Arena in Solna, marking a return to winning ways while handing the home side their second consecutive defeat.
Two of Sweden’s most storied clubs, boasting 36 championships between them, started this season with a renewed determination to reclaim podium positions in the Allsvenskan under new Spanish management, following a disappointing campaign in 2025. More immediately, both teams were keen to bounce back after experiencing their first losses of the season just last week.
Last season, their encounters yielded no goals, and both teams sought to exploit the flanks early on. However, their wingers faced stiff resistance, and the first shot on target came from AIK’s Bersant Celina, whose attempt sailed over the bar after eight minutes.
Shortly thereafter, Taha Ali displayed some skillful footwork to evade defenders before the ball reached Sead Haksabanovic at the edge of the box. His shot was deflected wide, and from the resultant corner, Malmo set it back up for Haksabanovic, whose low strike narrowly missed the target.
Excitement grew among AIK supporters for young winger Zadok Yohanna, who showcased his potential by forcing a save from Johan Dahlin after 18 minutes with a powerful shot. Dahlin then had to stretch to touch away a follow-up from Abdihakim Ali, who had expertly turned his marker.
But in the 25th minute, against the run of play, the home side found themselves trailing. Otto Rosengren powered through AIK’s midfield, and although his shot was kept out by the diving Kristoffer Nordfeldt, Haksabanovic kept the play alive, delivering a cross that Erik Botheim headed home for his second goal of the season.
Malmo’s head coach, Miguel Angel Ramirez, celebrated passionately, igniting emotions in the stands. Once tensions settled, AIK regained their composure and nearly equalised with Yohanna’s effort, which curved just above the target, before Amel Mujanic’s weak shot was easily saved by Dahlin.
The visitors had the best chance to extend their lead before the break, as Yanis Karabelyov unleashed a fierce low drive, only for Nordfeldt to make an impressive save. The one-goal advantage held at half-time after Dahlin parried Mujanic’s attempt following a clever play by Taha Ayari.

Remarkably, Gnaget had failed to score against Malmo in their last five encounters, and their attempts to change that in the early stages of the second half proved fruitless. Despite exerting good pressure, they struggled to breach the Himmelsblatt defence. As the visitors pressed forward, AIK’s frustration grew, culminating in a yellow card for Mujanic after a foul on Ali.
Malmo appeared shaky at the back, conceding possession to substitute Erik Flataker on the edge of their penalty area, but his effort was blocked. Yohanna’s follow-up effort also missed the target. Rosengren rose to the occasion around the hour mark, making two vital interceptions close to the goal line.
As the match entered the final 20 minutes, a promising strike from Celina looked to be heading for the net until Andrej Djuric intervened with a header. When Celina later latched onto a long ball, Dahlin reacted swiftly to deny him.
The last ten minutes saw Malmo under relentless pressure. A failed clearance by Dahlin gifted Ibrahim Cisse a chance to volley, but the keeper managed to recover. Cisse, now playing as an impromptu forward, had a downward header saved by Dahlin, who then tipped over a deflected strike from Aron Csongvai from the edge of the area.
In a dramatic finish during the five minutes of stoppage time, Yohanna seemingly had the opportunity to salvage a point for AIK, but Dahlin again demonstrated his quality, stretching to turn the shot away from danger, allowing Malmo to cling to victory and secure all three points at the national stadium.
This marks AIK’s first defeat at home under Jose Riveiro, leaving them on seven points in the standings, while Malmo reaches double figures after five matches.
