Ben Te Kura, the towering Brisbane Broncos player, has been granted a six-week hiatus from his NRL duties to pursue his aspirations in the NFL.
Standing at an impressive 205cm, Te Kura is currently the tallest competitor in the NRL and aims to emulate the remarkable achievements of Jordan Mailata, Australia’s Super Bowl champion and former league junior.
On Sunday, the Broncos announced that the 21-year-old has attracted longstanding interest from NFL franchises. To facilitate this, the club has sanctioned his participation in a six-week NFL training camp currently in progress.

Upon completing the six weeks, the Broncos stated that he would either rejoin team training or the club could further extend his leave to explore additional opportunities in the NFL in the United States.
Dwane Budgen, a certified NFL players’ association contract adviser, noted that Te Kura possesses the necessary attributes to navigate the challenging transition to American football.
“Ben Te Kura is well-suited to the NFL. He has athleticism and an impressive wingspan, which are highly sought after in the league,” Budgen mentioned in an interview with SEN.

Since making his debut in 2024, Te Kura has only participated in five NRL matches, hindered by a series of injuries. This season, he is yet to feature in first-grade games, having played just three encounters in the Queensland Cup with Wynnum Manly.
