Bayern Munich’s young talent Lennart Karl will be out of action for an extended period due to a thigh muscle injury, the club announced on Friday, as the Bavarians gear up to compete for three titles in the closing phase of the season.
The 18-year-old has experienced a rapid ascent this season and is a strong contender for a place in Germany’s World Cup squad set for May. The midfielder has netted five goals and provided four assists in the Bundesliga to date.
“Lennart Karl has sustained a tear in the muscle of his right rear thigh. This diagnosis was confirmed by the FC Bayern medical team,” the club stated. “As a result, the 18-year-old attacking midfielder will be unavailable for the foreseeable future.”
Bayern currently sit nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga with six matches remaining and will face St Pauli on Saturday.
Following this, they will host Real Madrid in their Champions League quarter-final second leg next week, after securing a 2-1 victory in Spain on Tuesday. Karl remained an unused substitute during that match.
Additionally, Bayern will take on Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup semi-final on April 22nd.
