Bayern Munich’s young talent, Lennart Karl, will be out for an extended period due to a thigh muscle injury, the club announced on Friday, as the Bavarians gear up for a three-title race in the season’s final phase.
The 18-year-old has experienced a remarkable ascent this season and is now a strong candidate for inclusion in Germany’s World Cup squad this May. In the Bundesliga alone, the midfielder has netted five goals and assisted four times.
“Lennart Karl has sustained a muscle tear in his right rear thigh. The diagnosis has been confirmed by the FC Bayern medical team,” the club stated. “This injury means that the 18-year-old attacking midfielder will be unavailable for the foreseeable future.”
Bayern, currently nine points ahead at the top of the Bundesliga with six matches remaining, will head to St Pauli on Saturday.
They will then welcome Real Madrid for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final next week, following their 2-1 victory in Spain on Tuesday. Karl did not see any action in that match.
Additionally, Bayern will take on Bayer Leverkusen in the German Cup semi-final on April 22nd.
