Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has secured a contract extension that will see him remain with the Premier League club until 2033, as announced by the club on Friday.
The Ecuadorian international signed an eight-year deal after his transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023, which set a then British transfer record of £115 million (approximately $156.27 million).
“I have faith in this team and this club, and I believe we are heading in the right direction. Our journey has only just started,” Caicedo expressed in a statement. “I aspire to win more silverware with Chelsea and dedicate myself fully to this club and its supporters.
“We’ve shared some wonderful moments already, and my ambition is to become a Chelsea legend; I will put in every effort to achieve that,” he continued.
Initially, Caicedo faced challenges in reproducing his Brighton form at Chelsea under previous manager Mauricio Pochettino, but the arrival of Enzo Maresca in 2024 proved pivotal.
The Italian tactician positioned Caicedo as a central midfielder, where he was responsible for protecting the backline and controlling the game’s tempo.
Following Chelsea’s triumph in the Conference League and Club World Cup, Caicedo earned the club’s player of the year and players’ player of the year awards.
This season, Caicedo has established himself as one of Chelsea’s most dependable players, featuring in over 40 matches across all competitions, and has occasionally donned the captain’s armband.
