Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has secured a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2033, the Premier League side announced on Friday.
The Ecuadorian signed an eight-year deal upon his transfer from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023, with the deal setting a then British record transfer fee of £115 million ($156.27 million).
“I have faith in this team, in this club and I believe we’re on the right path. This is just the start for us,” Caicedo stated in an official comment. “I aim to win more silverware with Chelsea and give my all for this club and its supporters.”
“We’ve shared some fantastic moments already, and my aspiration is to become a Chelsea legend; I will put in all the effort necessary to achieve that,” he continued.
Initially, Caicedo found it difficult to match his previous success at Brighton while playing for Chelsea under former manager Mauricio Pochettino, but the arrival of Enzo Maresca in 2024 proved to be a pivotal moment.
The Italian manager utilised Caicedo as a central midfielder, assigning him the responsibility of guarding the defence and controlling the pace of the game.
Following Chelsea’s triumph in both the Conference League and Club World Cup, Caicedo was honoured as the club’s player of the year and players’ player of the year.
He has become one of Chelsea’s key players, clocking up over 40 appearances across all competitions this season, and has even donned the captain’s armband on several occasions.
