Kieran Foran has unexpectedly revealed that he sensed Manly’s triumph over the Dolphins was on the horizon, even amid a “whirlwind week” of upheaval.
Just days after the departure of head coach Anthony Seibold, who was replaced by the club legend, the Sea Eagles delivered a sensational 52-18 victory on Thursday night.
Haumole Olakau’atu showcased one of the finest performances of his career, and he was far from alone as the visiting side dominated Redcliffe with a commanding display.
Foran, who hung up his boots just last year after a remarkable playing career, stepped into the head coaching role at his former club merely five days prior and managed to secure a historic win.
In his post-match comments, the 2011 premiership champion confessed he experienced a wave of nerves ahead of the round five clash, yet he was confident that Manly would rise to the occasion.

“I felt nervous. I spent the day wandering around Brisbane as I just couldn’t keep still,” Foran explained during the press conference.
“Stepping into this role comes with its nerves, especially with everything happening this week; I wanted this win for the club and for the boys.”
“It really has been a whirlwind of a week. I felt this kind of performance was on its way; we’ve had glimpses of our potential and have been solid in patches. The key challenge was for them to deliver a complete performance for longer stretches.”

“The week was brilliant; the boys performed fantastically. Given everything that was going on, they showed up tonight. We’ve got an incredible footy team, we just needed to find our rhythm – it’s all about building on this.”
“Tonight’s performance is a step in the right direction, but it’s not the final say. Scoring 52 points was pleasing, yet we didn’t finish as strongly as we should have, conceding 18 points.”
Foran had a broad grin as he sat alongside former teammate and current captain Tom Trbojevic, who left the game in the second half after sustaining two head knocks but was cleared by medical staff before being rested as Manly piled on the score.
Trbojevic shared that some candid discussions initiated by Foran and chief executive, and former player, Jason King helped establish the tone for the team’s turnaround.
“Reflecting on how our week started, it was quite disappointing,” he stated.
“We rallied together, and Foz and Kingy encouraged us to reflect deeply on ourselves and how we contribute to our current standing.”
“As two of our greatest players, when they say such things, you realise the importance of self-assessment and finding ways you can assist.”
“The way everyone responded was fantastic.”
Trbojevic was a forceful presence at the back before leaving the pitch, but Olakau’atu undoubtedly was the standout performer for the Sea Eagles.

Olakau’atu concluded the match with an impressive tally of 268 run metres, two linebreaks, two assists, and a try of his own, reminding everyone of his remarkable potential.
“He was outstanding,” Foran praised.
“He has shown flashes of his talent in the earlier rounds but hadn’t consistently delivered – tonight, he certainly did.”
“He set a powerful tone early on and continuously tested the Dolphins’ defensive line throughout the game.”
Next weekend, Manly will aim to maintain their momentum as they prepare to face the Dragons.
