Ismaelo Ganiou’s dramatic late goal helped Lens stage an incredible comeback, overcoming a 2-0 deficit to secure a 3-2 victory against 10-man Toulouse. This result dealt a psychological blow to their opponents just ahead of their Coupe de France semi-final showdown on Tuesday, marking an impressive eighth win in their last ten encounters (D1, L1).
No team in Ligue 1 has accrued more home points than Lens this season (W13, D2). However, they found themselves trailing 2-0 within just 13 minutes following a remarkable start to the match.
Toulouse opened the scoring in the sixth minute, courtesy of a blunder by goalkeeper Robin Risser, who let Cristian Casseres Jr’s long-range effort slip through his grasp.
This was only the midfielder’s second goal of the season, and a surprising contributor doubled the lead shortly after, as 18-year-old defender Seny Koumbassa netted his first senior goal, directing a header home after Toulouse maintained pressure from a corner kick.
Lens were gifted a lifeline just four minutes later when Toulouse’s leading scorer, Yann Gboho, was shown a red card for a high challenge after referee Jeremie Pignard reviewed the incident on VAR.

With the momentum now in their favour, Lens saw Wesley Said head into the side netting before Toulouse keeper Gillaume Restes pulled off an impressive double save, denying Matthieu Udol.
Florian Sotoca then appeared to have reduced the deficit on the half-hour mark, but Pignard noticed a push by the skipper as he headed the ball into the net. Despite Lens applying significant pressure, Toulouse maintained their slender lead at half-time for only the second time in their last 11 Ligue 1 fixtures (HT: D4, L5).
The barrage continued after the break, with Said squandering an opportunity just six minutes into the half by heading over, before another tame effort was sent straight at Restes.
Finally, in the 61st minute, the goalkeeper was beaten when substitute Allan Saint-Maximin whipped in a cross for Saud Abdulhamid, who scored with a header, marking his second goal of the season.
Within just six minutes, Lens brought it back to level terms as Restes misjudged a low drive from Malang Sarr, allowing Adrien Thomasson—who previously scored in the 3-0 win during their last meeting—to net his third goal of the campaign.
As Lens searched for a last-minute winner, it seemed they may have to settle for a draw until Ganiou headed home from a corner during stoppage time, capping off a remarkable total of 42 shots for the match.
Now, with just a lone point separating them from Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain—who have two games in hand—Lens’ aspirations for their first top-flight title since 1997/98 remain firmly alive.
This outcome is likely to give them an advantage heading back to face Toulouse on Tuesday, a side that has only managed two victories in Ligue 1 since February began (D2, L7).
