The ongoing challenges for the Dragons have deepened with the confirmation that representative player Jaydn Su’A will depart from the club at the end of the current season.
Despite having a player option in his contract to extend through to 2027, Su’A has chosen to move on, attributing his decision to the club’s alarming performance on the field.
According to reports from News Corp, the second-rower is set to join the Parramatta Eels as part of Jason Ryles’ overhaul of the club’s roster.
Dragons CEO Tim Watsford announced the news via a statement.
“Jaydn has played a significant role in our squad and has made a valuable contribution during his time in the Red V,” he stated.

“We are grateful to Jaydn for his time with the Dragons and wish him and his family all the best in their future endeavours.”
Since joining the club in 2022, Su’A has made 76 appearances and was honoured as the 2024 Dragons Medal recipient, awarded for being the NRL side’s best player.

Given Su’A’s friendship with new Dragons acquisition and former Souths teammate Keaon Koloamatangi, his decision to leave highlights the pressing need for success within the club.
Although the club has recently imposed a freeze on retention, Su’A was exempt from this, as the choice lay within his contract.
Shane Flanagan’s side is still in search of their first victory this season, with the team enduring a streak of 10 consecutive losses following a disappointing finish to the 2025 season.
The future of Flanagan has become a hot topic, alongside discussions surrounding the club’s performance staff. General manager Ben Haran has been part of the club for over a decade, holding his current position for six years.
The board is rumoured to have a meeting scheduled for Tuesday to discuss the team’s troubling form.
