Carlos Baleba Poised to Join as Manchester United Targets Midfield Reinforcement for Summer Overhaul

The core of the situation is quite straightforward. With Casemiro set to depart, a replacement is necessary, and there is increasing speculation that Manuel Ugarte may also be on his way out.

While these direct replacements are essential, sources have indicated that simply bringing them in won’t address all the issues at hand.

This season, United have lacked depth in this area and had plans to sign an additional midfielder last summer. Unfortunately, their primary targets were unattainable, which forced them to delay their efforts, but the need for reinforcements remains unresolved.

Therefore, it’s entirely feasible that they will pursue another central player as long as the recruitment process proceeds without a hitch. With Champions League football on the horizon, having a more robust squad for next season is crucial.

Kobbie Mainoo is expected to agree to a new contract shortly, while Bruno Fernandes is likely to remain with the club for at least another season. Mason Mount is also set to stay unless a substantial offer comes in, which appears unlikely at this juncture.

Currently, Baleba seems to be the most probable signing. United have shown interest in him since last summer and are now aiming to entice him away from Brighton.

Although his current season has not been particularly stellar, his style and position are still considered a perfect match. Importantly, United believe they can secure him for significantly less than the £100 million figure that was floated eight months ago.

Other targets include Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, and Adam Wharton. However, the competition for these players is expected to be intense, and at this stage, United are uncertain about how the pursuit will unfold. The chase for Baleba is anticipated to be more straightforward.

Ideally, United aim to sign two players from within the Premier League to facilitate smoother integration into the squad.

The third option may come from outside of England, as the club is reported to be scouting emerging talents primarily across Spain and Germany.
