The ACT Brumbies injected new energy into a faltering season with a resilient 14-10 victory over the Highlanders in Dunedin on Friday evening.
Matches held indoors in New Zealand’s southern region are typically characterised by high scores, but this encounter turned into a traditional battle, clinched late by vital contributions from Luke Reimer.
The often-overlooked flanker was brought onto the pitch earlier than planned to replace Charlie Cale during the first half and secured the match-winning try in the 75th minute.

Reimer powered through from close range after a yellow card was issued to Highlanders replacement hooker Henry Bell, opening a crucial opportunity for the visitors.
In his 100th match, Brumbies captain Ryan Lonergan also crossed for a try, marking brother Lachlan’s debut in the Super Rugby season.
This victory propelled the Brumbies to third place on the standings, trailing only the Hurricanes and Blues, who will meet in Wellington on Saturday.

Reimer addressed ex-Highlanders lock Joe Wheeler, saying, “We’re pretty honest with one another. We just haven’t delivered against Australian teams.”
“We may have grown a bit complacent, but our primary objective is to win the competition. However, we won’t achieve that unless we continue to rack up victories.”
This marked the Brumbies’ sixth consecutive triumph over the Highlanders.
