Inclement weather caused a pause in both AFL and rugby union matches, taking place at stadiums only a short distance apart.
The Waratahs were ahead 22-14 in the 70th minute when, at 9:08 PM, match officials informed the referee that lightning was present in the vicinity, prompting an immediate halt to the game.
Stan Sport commentator Sean Maloney expressed his frustration, repeatedly exclaiming “no” and lamenting “not again,” recalling a similar situation in March when a match between the Reds and Brumbies was similarly interrupted.

The audience was also required to seek shelter, including appearances from Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, at the Super Rugby fixture.
Play resumed at Allianz Stadium at 9:50 PM.
Meanwhile, the SCG saw a lightning delay during the half-time break of the derby between the Sydney Swans and GWS Giants, with players already in the changing rooms.
The Swans held a lead of 7.3 (45) to 3.8 (26) at half-time.
Play resumed at the SCG slightly later than the adjacent match, with the ball-up occurring at 10:02 PM.
