In a move aimed at avoiding relegation, Cardiff City have appointed midfielder Aaron Ramsey as caretaker manager for their final three matches of the Championship season, following the departure of manager Omer Riza earlier today, as confirmed by the club.
The Wales captain, currently placed second from bottom in the league and just one point shy of safety, has been given the responsibility of steering the Bluebirds away from the drop zone.
Though the 34-year-old Ramsey lacks managerial experience, he has harboured ambitions of pursuing a coaching career. He will take charge for Monday’s home fixture against Oxford United.
Ramsey’s support team will include his former international colleague, Chris Gunter, who manages the Wales Under-19s, along with midfielder Joe Ralls.
“We would like to express our gratitude to Omer for his dedication and commitment during his tenure as Cardiff City manager, and we wish him all the best in his future career,” Cardiff stated.
