The newcomers TPS have taken an impressive lead at the Veikkausliiga standings mid-way through the second round, following their victory over Lahti on Friday night. Meanwhile, SJK secured a convincing win, and VPS and Jaro played out a draw.
TPS 2-1 Lahti
After drawing 1-1 against Mariehamn on their travels, last season’s playoff finalists built on that positive start by claiming all three points in their first home match back in the top tier.
The first goal came just before half-time, with Lahti failing to clear a scrappy ball in their penalty area, allowing Eetu Turkki to nod it across to Theodoros Tsirigotis, who finished with a header.
Just five minutes into the second half, Tsirigotis turned provider again, this time setting up Marius Konkkola to score his first goal since their encounter in the Liiga Cup back in January.
Momodou Sarr was the hero for Lahti in their opening match against Jaro, but his goal 16 minutes from the end proved to be merely a consolation as TPS held firm to claim victory in this clash of newly-promoted teams.
SJK 3-0 Mariehamn
After suffering a 3-0 defeat to HJK on the opening weekend, SJK responded emphatically with a comfortable 3-0 triumph at home against Mariehamn.
They took the lead just before the half-hour mark, thanks to a simple goal when Kasper Paananen delivered an inswinging cross that Kelvin Pires headed in from the centre of the six-yard box.
Seven minutes into the second half, the hosts doubled their advantage as Salim Yussif embarked on a powerful run through the midfield before laying the ball off to Paananen, who then brushed off challenges to dispatch a powerful shot past the keeper.
The finishing touch came in the dying moments of the match when Paananen’s replacement Elias Mastokangas found another substitute, Jeremiah Streng, who capped off a successful evening for the Seinajoki outfit.
VPS 0-0 Jaro
A goalless draw unfolded in Vaasa, with VPS earning their second consecutive scoreless result at the start of their 2026 campaign. Jaro managed to secure their first point but are still hunting for their inaugural goal of the season.
Despite Jaro’s efforts—totaling 18 shots across the full 90 minutes—they could not find the net, with Mamodou Jalloh in goal for VPS expertly saving all five shots on target.
