Richmond’s coach, Adam Yze, did not shy away from expressing his annoyance following a reckless free kick awarded against one of his players during the clash with Port Adelaide.
In a disappointing defeat of 13.12 (90) to 6.12 (48) on Saturday night, ruckman Samson Ryan was seen delivering a punch to the stomach of his opponent, Jordon Sweet.
This moment of lost focus from Ryan occurred away from the main action but resulted in a free kick for Port, altering the course of the match.

Ryan now faces the prospect of disciplinary action, as Yze reflects on the moment of lapse in judgment.
“Given the circumstances we are in, with several players unavailable and younger players stepping up, incidents like this are particularly disappointing,” Yze stated.
“While I can accept errors in execution, moments like these really drain your team’s spirit. It was a foolish act, plain and simple.”
“When you’re in a difficult spot like we are, losing fit players is incredibly frustrating.”
Richmond currently finds themselves at the bottom of the AFL ladder, still looking for their first win after four games.

Yze acknowledged that his team struggled to take advantage of critical scoring opportunities against Port.
“During that middle phase of the game, our effort and intent were commendable, but we severely lacked polish and execution,” he remarked.
“It’s vital to utilise the corridor whenever possible, yet we were making some dubious decisions about when to exploit that space or take risks.”
The beleaguered Tigers will face the GWS Giants in their next outing.
