Stuttgart has extended their unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga to seven matches (W5, D2) after a commanding 4-0 victory against Hamburger at MHPArena, propelling them to third place on the table.
As expected, Stuttgart took control of the match early on, with Deniz Undav narrowly missing the target with a strike from the edge of the box.
Hamburg’s Fabio Balde also failed to convert from a similar distance in one of their rare chances, but Stuttgart quickly capitalised to take the lead.
Jamie Leweling made an immediate impact on his return to the starting XI, assisting Angelo Stiller, who scored with a precise shot into the bottom corner.
The Reds had previously won seven out of eight home games this season when scoring first in the league (D1), creating a palpable expectation that they would secure a comfortable victory.
Hamburg’s best opportunity in the first half fell to Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer, whose threatening shot was expertly saved by Alexander Nubel.
However, Stuttgart soon doubled their lead, with Ermedin Demirovic setting up Chris Fuhrich, who finished neatly into the bottom corner.
Demirovic nearly sealed the match before half-time with a solo run, but his attempt went just past the wrong side of the post. This would surely have led to some strong discussions in Hamburg’s dressing room at the break, but Stuttgart continued to look the more dangerous side.
Daniel Heuer Fernandes was called into action, making two impressive saves in quick succession—first denying Maximilian Mittelstadt from close range, and then thwarting a powerful shot from Undav just outside the box.
The hosts were almost made to regret their missed chances when Rayan Philippe headed just over, but they found their third goal before the hour mark. Fuhrich provided the assist again, passing the ball to Mittelstadt on the edge of the area, where he found the bottom corner once more.
Mittelstadt had another opportunity to score quickly after, but Fernandes managed to save his dangerous free-kick. Demirovic later thought he had added a fifth with a fine finish, only for it to be ruled out for offside.
Undav had an even bigger chance to extend the lead from the penalty spot, but he surprisingly shot over the bar.
Bilal El Khannouss, however, capitalised on his opportunity, scoring the fourth goal with a deflected shot from just outside the area after being set up by Tiago Tomas.
Stuttgart showed their strength on home turf once again, having now emerged victorious in six of their last seven encounters at MHP Arena, without a single defeat.
