Andrej Kramaric’s brace from the penalty spot, including a decisive kick in the dying moments of the match, earned Hoffenheim a vital 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund. This marks their first victory in five Bundesliga encounters, rejuvenating their hopes for UEFA Champions League (UCL) qualification.
The match began with a frenzied pace, setting the scene for an exhilarating first half. Hoffenheim nearly found the net in the opening five minutes when Tim Lemperle connected with a deep cross, only to see his volley hit the crossbar, leaving Gregor Kobel stranded.
Despite several promising chances, Dortmund struggled to create clear opportunities but nearly broke the deadlock with a header from Daniel Svensson that just skimmed over the bar.
As the first half drew to a close, Hoffenheim were awarded a penalty after an unusual incident involving Niklas Sule. The Dortmund defender appeared to block a shot while falling, but VAR intervention confirmed he had used his hand, resulting in a penalty kick.
After a lengthy delay, Kramaric held his composure to convert the penalty, sending the ball past Kobel just before half-time and giving the hosts a crucial lead.

As the second half unfolded, Dortmund intensified their pressure, pushing Hoffenheim deeper into their own half. However, clear goal-scoring opportunities remained elusive, prompting Niko Kovac to send on top scorer Serhou Guirassy despite initial injury concerns.
Yet, even with the attacking reinforcements, the anticipated wave of Dortmund attacks never materialised. Hoffenheim defended resolutely and controlled the game effectively.
Just when it seemed that the home side would secure the points, Guirassy conjured a spectacular moment of brilliance, turning and unleashing a precise shot from the edge of the box that found the back of the net, equalising for Dortmund.
However, the late drama continued as VAR intervened to identify a handball by Julian Ryerson in the box, gifting Hoffenheim the opportunity to reclaim the lead from the penalty spot.
Kramaric again demonstrated his composure, coolly slotting the penalty into the corner deep in stoppage time to secure the win.
With this victory, Hoffenheim has earned their first home win against Dortmund since December 2019, and they move to within two points of the top four, albeit having played one match more than the two teams ahead of them. Meanwhile, Dortmund’s defeat opens the door for Bayern Munich to seize the Bundesliga title in their next match.
