Sirius maintained their flawless start to the Allsvenskan season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Malmo, reclaiming the top spot in the process. Meanwhile, on Thursday evening, AIK suffered a surprising defeat to Degerfors, and both Kalmar and GAIS managed to secure their first points of the campaign.
Malmo 2-3 Sirius
For Sirius, a victory meant a return to the pinnacle of the table, though achieving this against a determined Malmo side, keen to secure a two-goal win for themselves, was no straightforward task.
The visitors wasted no time, taking the lead just 13 minutes in when a corner found Mohamed Soumah at close range. Though his initial shot was blocked, he expertly powered the rebound into the top corner.
Malmo appeared to be turning the tide ten minutes into the second half when Adrian Skogmar broke free on the right. His low cross danced across the Sirius box before landing at the feet of Sead Haksabanovic, whose shot deflected wildly but ended up in the net.
However, Sirius struck back just five minutes later. Isak Bjerkebo, determined to make his mark against his former club, cut inside from the left and buried a shot in the bottom corner.
Six minutes on, the lead was extended further as Neo Jonsson met a free-kick at the byline, delivering a ball for Robbie Ure to tap in, notching up his third goal of the season.
In a frantic finish, Malmo’s Adrian Skogmar played an exquisite one-two with Jens Stryger Larsen before netting a low shot with 13 minutes remaining. Yet, Sirius held firm, securing yet another impressive victory and handing Miguel Angel Ramirez his first loss in the Allsvenskan.
Degerfors 2-1 AIK
Degerfors had previously amassed all their points away from home, so a third home fixture against an unbeaten AIK wasn’t exactly a confidence booster.
However, they managed to score on home turf for the first time this season, albeit with a stroke of luck. Just 15 minutes in, Ludvig Fritzson whipped in a low ball from the right that inadvertently found its way into the net via the outstretched foot of Stanley Wilson.
AIK responded amidst first-half stoppage time when an off-balance Erik Flataker squeezed a pass through for Johan Hove, who levelled the score. At 1-1, the teams went into the break, but the drama was far from over.
With just five minutes left, AIK suffered another bizarre setback. An AIK free-kick near the halfway line struck Dijan Vukojevic, who stood too close, but the referee allowed play to continue. Vukojevic capitalised on a sloppy back pass, setting up Arman Taranis for the decisive finish.
AIK was left fuming, experiencing their first defeat of the campaign and remaining on seven points, while Degerfors crept within a point of them as their inconsistent start continued.
Kalmar 1-1 Goteborg
Newly-promoted Kalmar finally secured their first point of the season, while IFK Goteborg’s struggles continued, leaving them just a point ahead of the Roda Broder.
Kalmar took the lead just shy of the 30-minute mark when Rony Jansson delivered a cross met by a stooping header from Charlie Rosenqvist.
Goteborg equalised in a similar manner during injury time of the first half, as Adam Bergmark-Wiberg provided the delivery for Tobias Heintz to nod in. Despite efforts from both sides, no further goals came in the second half, keeping both teams in the bottom three.
GAIS 0-0 Mjallby
While Mjallby was the standout story in the 2025 Allsvenskan season, GAIS’s qualification for Europe was significant as well. However, both teams seemed to display a shadow of their former selves in a disappointing goalless draw in Gothenburg, with GAIS claiming their first point of the season, while Mjallby managed just one win in four matches.
GAIS perhaps felt they deserved more, notably when Tony Miettinen appeared to handle the ball in the box during first-half stoppage time, yet the referee overlooked the incident and did not award a penalty.
