PSV midfielder Joey Veerman made a pointed remark directed at Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman during the title celebrations for PSV on Wednesday.
Veerman, who hasn’t been selected for the national team since Euro 2024, famously had a short outing against Austria, being substituted after just 35 minutes. Following that match, he only managed to accumulate 93 additional minutes of play for the Orange team.
Frustrated by his continued exclusion, Veerman reacted sharply after his teammates sang a chant proclaiming “Joey in Oranje,” indirectly targeting Koeman and the KNVB. “They can sort it out themselves,” Veerman commented before swiftly shifting the topic.
At 27 years old, Veerman is enjoying his most statistically impressive season at PSV, who secured their 27th Eredivisie title last weekend. The native of Volendam has netted 8 goals and provided a league-high 14 assists in 27 appearances in the Eredivisie. With a summer transfer on the horizon, Veerman is set to leave PSV after a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe fell through in the final moments last December.
