Former Liverpool forward Stan Collymore has expressed his dissatisfaction with Mohamed Salah’s conduct during his final season at the club.
Collymore firmly believes that the Egyptian superstar can be adequately replaced and is disheartened by the way Salah’s last season at Liverpool has unfolded.
In an interview with Tribalfootball on behalf of Best Betting Bonuses, Collymore remarked: “It’s unfortunate, but I feel he could have handled things better.”
“If you compare it to the video of Andy Robertson, it’s all about gratitude: ‘I’m leaving, I’ve had an incredible nine years, I love the club and I’ll always return’. Salah’s message felt somewhat lacking in that regard.”
“I get that forwards have a different mentality compared to full-backs. Full-backs tend to be the steady, reliable players who don’t often grab headlines. In contrast, players like Mo Salah have immense self-belief, making it personal when they’re benched.”
“However, let’s be clear: while Salah has been exceptional for Liverpool, the club has equally been fantastic for him.”
‘No single player exceeds the club’
Collymore acknowledges Salah’s contributions but maintains that Liverpool will eventually find a new star to spearhead their attack.
He added: “It’s worth remembering that he was at Roma and performing well, but when I saw his early matches for Chelsea, there was no hint he would evolve into the player he became. I was quite let down by all the blame-casting six months ago.”
“As a player, regardless of who it is, if they aren’t meeting expectations in training – and it won’t just be Arne Slot making that call; his entire staff will be involved in assessing, ‘He’s not quite at it in training or matches, maybe he should sit on the bench.’
“It’s disappointing when any celebrated player departs. But perhaps more than any other club, Liverpool FC embodies the principle that no single player is larger than the institution.
“Liverpool will certainly find someone to fill his role.”
