In front of a packed audience at Brisbane’s The Valley Pool on Friday evening, two-time Olympic gold medallist Duncan Scott put on a show by mimicking Kyle Chalmers during the 50 metre skins event of Australia vs The World.
As Australia found themselves trailing The World 39-32, Scott from Britain and local star Matt Temple dove into the 25-metre pool.
Scott made a strong tumble turn and clinched the victory effortlessly, scoring five points for The World in this unique, albeit intricate, competition.
The 28-year-old playfully hushed the home crowd by placing his index finger to his lips and cupping his ear, echoing Chalmers’ famous celebration.
Chalmers famously used the “shush” gesture after securing gold in the men’s 100m freestyle at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, a response to the naysayers following the intense scrutiny he faced leading into the event.

Cate Campbell from Nine questioned Scott with a grin, asking if his shush was a tribute to Chalmers, who was absent from the competition.
“Yes, where is he?” Scott joked with a laugh.
“That’s what I’d like to know… just kidding.
“The World team came here to compete, and it’s fantastic to see such a great turnout from the crowd, I really enjoy this atmosphere.”
The Australia vs The World event featured a series of skins races across various strokes, including freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke, in addition to a standard 400m freestyle, a mystery mixed medley, a fans’ choice mixed relay, and a freestyle mixed mega relay.
Competition organisers kept the full format under wraps leading up to the event, with Kaylee McKeown telling Nine’s Today, “All I can say is it’s certainly not the usual racing you would typically witness.”
