Viking FK demonstrated their dominance as reigning Norwegian champions on Saturday afternoon, securing a commanding 5-0 victory over Bodo/Glimt, who previously surprised many by reaching the round of 16 in the Champions League, where they were eliminated by Sporting CP.
On Saturday evening, Viking showcased exactly why they hold the title of defending champions in Norway, putting on an emphatic display at their home ground by thrashing Bodo/Glimt 5-0.
This defeat marked Bodo/Glimt’s heaviest loss in the Norwegian Eliteserie since their 6-0 humiliation by Valerenga back in 2019.
The scoring spree commenced just five minutes in, with Danish striker Peter Christiansen netting the opening goal for the home team. Nine minutes later, Kristoffer Askildsen doubled the lead, courtesy of an assist from former Brondby player Joe Bell.
The Bodo/Glimt defence clearly hadn’t learned from their earlier mistakes, as Simen Kvia-Egeskog added a second goal to his tally, handing Viking an impressive 3-0 advantage within the first 16 minutes.
Kvia-Egeskog found the net again in the 74th minute, and Zlatko Tripic capped off a stellar evening for the home side with a fifth goal just three minutes from time.
“I genuinely believe this result is deserved,” remarked a candid Kjetil Knutsen, coach of Bodo/Glimt, following the match. “This was embarrassing and humiliating, and far from what Glimt should aspire to be. We must acknowledge the energy and strength displayed by Viking.”
Bodo/Glimt will have an opportunity to bounce back when they travel to face Sarpborg next Wednesday evening.
