On Saturday afternoon, Viking FK showcased their prowess as the reigning champions of Norway, overwhelmingly defeating Bodo/Glimt 5-0. Bodo/Glimt had previously created waves in the Champions League by reaching the Round of 16, where they faced a tough defeat against Sporting CP.
Viking FK, in a commanding display at their home ground on Saturday night, reaffirmed their status as Norway’s defending champions by delivering a crushing 5-0 defeat to Bodo/Glimt.
This marked Bodo/Glimt’s heaviest loss in the Norwegian Eliteserie since their 6-0 drubbing by Valerenga in 2019.
The scoring frenzy kicked off just five minutes in as Danish forward Peter Christiansen found the net for the home side. Nine minutes later, an assist from former Brondby player Joe Bell allowed Kristoffer Askildsen to double the lead.
Clearly, the Bodo/Glimt defence had not learned from their early mistakes, as Simen Kvia-Egeskog netted his first of two goals, extending Viking’s lead to a staggering 3-0 within just 16 minutes.
Kvia-Egeskog added his second goal in the 74th minute, and Zlatko Tripic completed the rout, scoring the fifth goal three minutes before the final whistle.
“I genuinely believe it was deserved,” admitted Bodo/Glimt coach Kjetil Knutsen, candidly reflecting on the match. “This was embarrassing and humiliating, a far cry from what Glimt should represent. We must also give credit to Viking for their energy and power.”
Bodo/Glimt will have a chance to bounce back when they take on Sarpborg away on Wednesday evening next week.
