In a thrilling turnaround, North Queensland has staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 35-31 victory over the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.
Brisbane entered the match with a significantly weakened squad and faced an additional challenge when reserve Josh Rogers had to step in as hooker for a quarter of the game following concussions to both Cory Paix and Blake Mozer.
Tom Duffy, a former Cowboys talent, seemed poised to send his old team to defeat when he successfully kicked a field goal in the 74th minute, pushing the score to 31-30.
However, Scott Drinkwater quickly levelled the match with a field goal from a tricky angle just two minutes later, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish.
As fatigue began to set in for the Broncos, the Cowboys seized the opportunity, driving upfield with precision. Heilum Luki capped off the scoring spree by crossing the line for the final try, exploiting a significant overlap on the left flank to clinch the win.

“This is absolutely incredible. I’m at a loss for words… the Broncos just ran out of defenders,” Cameron Smith remarked on Nine.
“This has to be one of the best games of the season so far, simply remarkable.”
A pivotal moment occurred when the Broncos were ahead 30-24 with just 16 minutes left on the clock.

After Tom Chester fumbled a kick, Brendan Piakura scooped up the loose ball and scored, extending the lead to 34-24.
However, referee Ashley Klein called the Bunker to review a potential obstruction by Gehamat Shibasaki on Chester.
The Bunker determined that Shibasaki had only focused on Chester and had stopped contesting for the ball, which hindered the Cowboys centre’s ability to make the catch.
North Queensland legend Johnathan Thurston questioned whether the call was justified.
“Doesn’t his eyeline follow the ball into Tommy Chester’s arms?,” he pondered.
“… it was just a clean drop.”
Smith concurred, suggesting that the Broncos may have been unfairly treated.
“The argument I would make is that Tom Chester had an unobstructed view of the ball the entire time,” he pointed out.
“He’s entitled to catch the football, and he didn’t. I could understand if Shibasaki came through with his arms raised and interfered with Chester’s view of the ball, but he doesn’t even obstruct Tom Chester’s line of sight.”
Ultimately, the contentious call swung momentum in favour of the Cowboys, allowing them to celebrate their fourth consecutive victory.
