Bernardo Silva, the 31-year-old Portuguese international midfielder and Manchester City captain, announced on Thursday that he will depart the English club at the conclusion of his contract, which is set to expire this summer.
In his ninth season with Manchester City, Bernardo Silva joined the club in the 2017/2018 season from Monaco.
Throughout his time at the English club, the 31-year-old has made 451 official appearances, placing him sixth on City’s all-time appearances list.
“When I first arrived nine years ago, I was chasing the dream of a young boy, eager to make a mark in life and achieve great things. This city and this club have given me far more than I ever envisioned for myself.
“The achievements we have celebrated together will always hold a special place in my heart—The Centurions, the domestic quadruple, the Treble, Four In A Row, and so much more… it’s been quite the journey.”
“In a matter of months, I will be saying farewell to the city where we have experienced so much success as a football club, as well as where I embarked on my journey of marriage and family. Thank you, Ines and Carlota, from the bottom of my heart!” Silva shared in a social media post.
A product of the Benfica academy, Bernardo Silva made the move to Monaco in 2014. After a three-year stint with the club in the Principality, he transferred to Manchester City, where he has enjoyed a remarkable nine-season run, triumphing in numerous competitions, including the Champions League and six Premier League titles.
This season, serving as captain, Silva has featured in 44 official matches, netting three goals and providing five assists.
