Puso Dithejane made his debut start for Chicago Fire, guiding them to a commanding 5-0 win over Sporting Kansas City, while Mbekezeli Mbokazi did not see any action this weekend.
Mbokazi remained an unused substitute as he was rested in a match that the Fire were always favoured to win against the last-placed team in the Western Conference.
The Fire continue to hold third position in the Eastern Conference, trailing leaders Nashville SC by five points.
Dithejane played for the first hour, having come off the bench in three previous matches for the Fire since his transfer from TS Galaxy at the start of the year.
This marks the first occasion this season that Mbokazi has not been in the starting lineup for the Fire, where he has already garnered a cult following among supporters.
In other news, Bradley Carnell’s Philadelphia Union sunk to the bottom of the Eastern Conference after suffering a 2-0 defeat away at Columbus Crew on Saturday.
“We had high hopes going into the game, but two mistakes led to two goals, and that effectively decided the match,” stated Carnell, who featured Olwethu Makhanya in central defence.
Philadelphia topped the regular-season standings last year, but they have managed only one win in their last ten MLS games this season.
Bongokuhle Hlongwane was in the starting lineup for Minnesota United, but they fell 1-0 at home to Los Angeles FC on the same day.
