Liverpool’s captain Virgil van Dijk is confident that Mohamed Salah will receive the farewell he rightfully deserves for his illustrious career, even if an injury sidelines the Egyptian from any further appearances for the club.
Salah, who is set to depart Anfield following a nine-year stint at the end of the season, had to exit Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace due to a suspected hamstring issue.
The club is currently waiting for the results of a scan to assess the severity of the injury, but with only four matches left in the season, the 33-year-old may have played his last game for Liverpool.
“Experiencing an injury at this point in the season, particularly in his situation, brings a mix of emotions, especially with only two home games remaining for him,” Van Dijk stated.
“He will receive the proper send-off regardless. I don’t think that’s a concern right now; we shouldn’t look too far ahead.”
“Knowing Mo, he’s a quick healer, and with the right support, we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Since arriving in 2017, Salah has netted an impressive 257 goals in 440 appearances, placing him third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list, behind only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.
The winger has played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s resurgence to the pinnacle of both English and European football, clinching the Champions League title and two Premier League championships among various other trophies.
Furthermore, Salah has been named the players’ player of the year a remarkable three times and has claimed the Premier League’s top scorer title on four occasions.
