The GWS Giants clinched a hard-fought seven-point win against North Melbourne after a thrilling 80-minute contest where goals were exchanged fiercely.
The two teams were locked in a close battle for the majority of the match, with neither side able to gain a clear advantage until GWS finally edged ahead in the fourth quarter.
Yet, the determined Kangaroos weren’t ready to give up, applying relentless pressure and making a late push right up to the final seconds of the AFL encounter held in Canberra.
When the final siren sounded, the Giants emerged victorious with a scoreline of 15.15 (105) to 14.14 (98).
The match was filled with drama, with the ARC technology coming under fire for the second time on Sunday.

The controversy arose when Giants midfielder Xavier O’Halloran kicked a goal that seemed to be touched by a Kangaroo’s hand just before crossing the line. While replay footage suggested a touch, the ARC ultimately decided to award the goal to GWS.
Giants captain Toby Greene didn’t shy away from discussing the incident. “I just wanted a goal. I needed a goal. It was goal for goal out there in that last 10 minutes,” he remarked post-match on Fox Footy.
“I honestly had no idea how much time was left. The way we secured the win was great.”

Speaking about the tough competition, Greene remarked, “It was just a good, old-fashioned scrap. They’ve been performing well, and they’re a good young side… I expected it to be a 50-50 game.”
The Giants’ win came in spite of significant concerns regarding their performance in the first half. AFL legend Nathan Buckley highlighted GWS’s ineffective pressure during those early stages.
“Whenever North Melbourne had time and space with the ball, the Giants couldn’t apply any pressure on them at all,” he noted.
“With their pressure rating currently at 155, that’s just abysmal.”

“Their pressure is far from what is needed to challenge North effectively during turnovers.”
Despite a sluggish beginning, the Giants managed to shift momentum and bag another vital win.
Next Saturday, North Melbourne will head to Geelong to face the Cats, while GWS will take on the Gold Coast Suns at Carrara next Sunday.
